Joe’s Blog Bout: Dwight Schrute vs. The Bee Gees

Our latest bout finds one of the most popular disco/pop groups of all time (with a resurrected Maurice) lacing up their satin gloves to go against one of the most popular TV comedy characters of today, Dwight Schrute of the U.S. version of “The Office.”

Ladies and Gents, place your bets and don your dancin’ shoes..

The Bee Gees

Strengths:

  • Wicked rhythms that are smoother than the finest polyester. Opponent too distracted by the urge to strut and dance.
  • Falsetto. Need I say more?
  • Barry Gibb’s beard.
  • Skillful use of wardrobe. Long, droopy sleeves, bell bottoms and shiny sequins daze, confuse and delight all at the same time.

Major Weaknesses:

  • Little battle experience. They’re lovers, not fighters.
  • Bulging chest hair an easy target for ‘grabbers’

Dwight Schrute

Strengths:

  • Purple belt in karate. (It’s not as impressive as you’d think, considering Dwights sparring partners are 5th graders).
  • Handy with a can of Mace
  • Decent shot with a paintball gun
  • Wrestling experience with his cousin Mose.
  • Possesses a variety of weapons, including but not limited to brass knuckles, nunchaku, a bow staff and a stun gun. Unknown if he really knows how to use them.

Major Weakness:

  • Excessive hubris.

Outcome:

No jive talkin’ here, the Bee Gees are a formidable force. But Dwight proves he’s “More than a Woman” by unleashing his attitude and can of mace [youtube] on Barry and the brothers. Being intent on “Staying Alive“, the British Brothers Gibb managed to evade Dwight’s attacks while landing a few of their own. In one exchange, Barry Gibb struck Dwight’s jaw with his Grammy, leaving him with a serious case of “Night Fever“.

In the end however, Dwight’s serious disinterest in disco music and experience as a volunteer Lackawanna County Sheriff’s deputy helped him to avoid the infectious rhythms and flashing sequins of the boys. Everyone agrees it was a “Tragedy” that the Bee Gees lost, but they took it in stride.

In his post bout interview, Robin Gibb congratulated Dwight by saying “You Win Again
